Bust out a few badges in no time.
They'd need their own, special badge...... The data computing diamond badge (gee...this sounds like an episode of Hey Duggie! :D )

Well does PrimeGrid have apps for ARM? I don't think so.
If you meant the chips getting badges..... :))))))))))) Of course!
I hope AMD's going to bring out something similar to that with ZEN 3 in 2020.

I would bet that if someone wanted to bring enough of those chips here to PrimeGrid AND the time to make the app could be offset by their contribution someone would make one, even if it was thru manual crunching.

There are a few people who work in Server Centers and also crunch as a way to test the hardware changes and they can blast thru some workunits at the various Projects.

There was once an ARM app for one of the PG projects, but after some time it was found to be flawed. I suspect to get a new ARM app would take a lot of testing and may never even make it to the project. Please go read up on the old ARM app.

With Apple now moving to ARM, I would hope that there is some behind the scenes discussion about what should be done. There seems to still be questions about whether Apple will continue to add AMD (presumably) GPUs in their more powerful units, or scale up the one on the SOC. LLR being made outside of PG also makes it a little more complicated.

The other fun comes in wondering how much performance there really is available when the high-bit vector instructions that really speed up the math aren't present. Of course, the lack of these also keeps power usage down, which is part of their advantage.

Good luck, admin team!

Not really on the inside anymore, but...

1) If Mac/ARM doesn't support something like AVX/FMA3, its LLR performance will be terrible and I wouldn't expect anyone would want to support it.

2) Even if it does, someone would need to rewrite all the gwnum assembly code. Hopefully that would come from George, in order to support P95 on the new Macs. If gwnum supports ARM Macs, then probably LLR will too.

3) LLR2, which is written here, will probably eventually eventually replace LLR, so it will be an in-house PrimeGrid product, except for the gwnum library.

4) For some time now we've had a LOT of trouble supporting Mac due to the very small percentage of Macs (and Mac people) at PrimeGrid. Even before this, the topic of dropping Mac support completely has been discussed. So while there hasn't been any behind the scenes discussion of MAC/ARM support that I'm aware of, there HAS been behind the scenes discussion about whether it's still worth it to support the much-more-useful existing MAC/x86 systems. I therefore think it's somewhat more likely that Mac support would be dropped altogether than that we would support Mac/ARM systems. But you never know what will happen.
