Good afternoon.

There is a compatibility problem with some applications in Windows XP-SP2 x64 Edition. The server issuing the tasks does not recognize this operating system, which is why 64-bit applications are sent that are not compatible with it (for some tasks).

https://www.primegrid.com/result.php?resultid=1102641559
https://www.primegrid.com/result.php?resultid=1102523847
https://www.primegrid.com/result.php?resultid=1101300295

Is it possible in this case to get 32-bit versions of incompatible applications?

Due to the inability to build software that would work on XP-64, we stopped supporting that operating system six years ago.

There's nothing we can do on our side. If you really want to use that computer here, I can think of few ways of circumventing the problem:

1) Using VBox or VMWare Player (both free), run a Linux VM under Windows XP, and run BOINC inside that VM. It will be able to run PrimeGrid tasks. I recommend using a 64 bit Linux distribution, but 32 bit will work too.

2) Modify the source code for the BOINC client, and build your own version that reports itself as running under 32 bit XP instead of 64 bit XP.

3) Use app_info.xml to supply your own LLR executable, and run the 32 bit version.

EDIT: I'm not sure whether or not the 32 bit code will work under XP-64. If it doesn't, then #2 and #3 above won't work. The only option that is sure to work is #1.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

I've edited my post away since Michael did a much more succinct job of what I said.

Good luck!

I see... However, some 64-bit applications work fine in this operating system.
(for example, at the moment: tpsieve_0.3.10d_windows64.exe and genefer_windows64_3.3.4.exe)

Different applications require different build procedures. We did in fact stop supporting XP-64 because we could not build one of our applications in such a way that it would run on both XP-64 and newer versions of Windows with the latest compilers. And before that, we had to jump through a lot of hoops to make XP-64 work. It was always the “problem child” of Windows.

I’m surprised that any of the apps still work on XP-64.

In this case, as an option, it is possible to upload a separate version of the problem application with an explanation of which operating system it is intended for. And the choice is left to the user in the account (in the "project settings" tab with a list of tasks).

However, I understand you, because developing each application for one operating system is quite troublesome...

"I’m surprised that any of the apps still work on XP-64"

Perhaps they do not have a binding both to the WinAPI functions that are absent in Windows XP, and to the “duct tapes” of the 32-bit architecture itself, coming almost from the time of MS-DOS.)))

The number of active XP hosts of any type is very low (in fact, it's 92). You may be the only XP64 user in that group.

I recommend going with Michael's Virtual Machine option. It's easy to set up and works well. Make sure that AMD-V (AMD's hardware virtualization extensions) is enabled in the BIOS to maximize available performance.

I will add to the above that the ap27_2.6_cpu_windows64.exe application also works under this operating system. There is a wish: if possible, do not violate the compatibility of the three above applications...

Thank you for the advice.
Have a better one.

Hello.

I confirm the operation of 32-bit LLR applications on the 64-bit WindowsXP-SP2 operating system (in particular, “Cllr.3.8.23.exe”, “llr_wrapper_8.04.exe” and “llr.ini.6.07”) through the app_info.xml file setting.
To perform LLR simultaneously with other tasks (for example, Sieve and GFN), is it necessary to configure the corresponding compatible applications through this file?

Unfortunately yes. app_info.xml is "all or nothing" way. All applications which you want to use must be declared there.
