How about a coast to coast run? You would run each sub project in a specified order for a week before changing to the next one. And just for fun, you could do something like multiply total credit times the number of primes found for a challenge score. Of course this would depend on whether enough WUs could be provided for each sub project as needed. Then again, that could also be part of the challenge.

Get used to it. It is a fact of life with GPU crunching. When buying a card look for the best warranty you can find. With that said this is one of the best. Be warned though, with this cooler the card will take up 3 slots. It comes with very good instructions.

I currently have two ATI cards setup to run this. One works fine and one doesn't.

On Monday I setup a HD5850 and it is happily munching through WUs in about 23 minutes.

Last night I setup a HD4850 and it appeared to be working with one quirk. While watching it, it seemed like the WU would finish in about 52 minutes. At about 46 minutes it suddenly jumped to %100 and moved on to the next one. I didn't think anything was wrong since I've seen stuff like this before in other projects. Today I noticed this machine was not getting any credit. Every WU errored at about 46 minutes with a maximum time exceeded error.

Is this something that can be fixed before the challenge? Is a HD4890 fast enough to complete these? Is a HD4870 fast enough to finish these.

I have a HD-4980 on two Vista Boxes and a HD-4830 on a XP Box.

I am using the App_info.xml setup in the message above. #29023

I know there was an issue with
"Maximum elapsed time exceeded"
on default setting - so I went back to the app_info.xml file

I am waiting for thing to shake out with that issue.

So you need to wait or go the app route

GPU work with Boinc is first in, first out. Once the collatz units are finished, the Primegrid ones will start.

I think you may have hit the solution. As I said before ther is just XP, Boinc and drivers installed. Microsoft .NET was not installed. I'll try it Thursday when I go back to work.

None of your 5 computers with Nvidia GPUs have any PPS-Sieve WUs in the database right now. That's the only subproject at PrimeGrid currently that's available for GPUs, so the problem isn't that you had WUs error out on the GPUs. There have not been any WUs at all sent to your GPUs, at least not the 260's.

I'm guessing that when you said "I tried a few days ago to run it with two different machines and on both the WUs errored out almost imediately." that what actually happened was that the BOINC message log was showing that error when it was attempting to get the WUs. THAT makes sense, because there were no WUs available until yesterday morning.

If that's what happened, just try again now. There's work again for this project after a planned 10-day outage. Hopefully, it will work now, but if it doesn't, copy and paste the error messages here. It also helps to post links to the computers and WUs involved.

I don't think it's a configuration issue if you're able to run CUDA on other projects. There ARE issues here at PrimeGrid with running ATI/AMD GPUs, and with running the newer Fermi (GTX4xx/5xx) nVidia GPUs, both of which may require the use of app_info.xml files. But the pre-Fermi CUDA cards, like your 260, should work without your having to do anything special.

I had stopped them so as not to trash WUs. I did a fresh install of Win XP, Nvidia driver and Boinc 6.10.56 this morning and reattached to the project. Still nothing but errors like the following.

I guess what I need is an IDOITS GUIDE TO RUNNING CUDA HERE.

I tried a few days ago to run it with two different machines and on both the WUs errored out almost imediately. The message said something about a configuration problem.

Both machines have GTX260s, Win XP (no service packs), Boinc 6.10.56 and the latest release drivers. They both will run all the other Cuda projects with no problems.

Is there something I'm missing like .NET, Java, Flash or just a good rabbits foot?

I attached, detached, reattached, shurdown Boinc, restarted Boinc and restarted the computer. It would do nothing but trash WUs.
