1) Message boards : Problems and Help : Prime notification not working? (Message 8096)
Posted 4594 days ago by Brian D from GeorgiaProject donor
Hi,

Same for me, no notification for about 5 weeks and around 15 primes found since the last email on Dec. 8th . Normal ratio of discovery versus double check is 50/50 so I should have about 7-8 primes once this "bug" gets fixed.
2) Message boards : Number crunching : Any PG sub-proj\'s have > 10 day deadline??? (Message 7959)
Posted 4617 days ago by Brian D from GeorgiaProject donor

I'll increase the deadline for newly generated Woodall workunits to two weeks (just for holiday period).

Rytis - Perfect! Gonna grab some now, 10 days of work with just a few wu's - sweet!
3) Message boards : Number crunching : Any PG sub-proj\'s have > 10 day deadline??? (Message 7957)

I am going to be gone from work for 10 days over Christmas and my dial up "farm" at my work lab needs something to crunch during this time. All PG sub proj's I've looked at like TPS, Woo and 321 have 7 day or less deadlines. Do any of the sieves allow longer deadlines? Otherwise I will be forced to crunch QMC or Seti as they have 30 day or longer deadlines. Really want to load my cache with PG stuff though. Any hints?

Before anyone suggests, I cannot allow unattended dial ups (automatically connect) to tie up the phone line while I am gone. That is not an option.
4) Message boards : Problems and Help : Not getting any WU (Message 7883)

The Server Load run chart also is showing close to zero load the last 2.5 hours instead of its average load of ~2.5. There is indeed some kind of server side issue going on. I thought it might be only TPS but glad you pointed out the problem is affecting all sub projects Pschoefer.

7) Message boards : Number crunching : out of WU? (Message 7647)

Drats! Out of TPS wu's and just when I needed to fill up the cache on my "dial-up" hosts for the long Thanksgiving Holiday weekend here in the States... Hope Rytis can get some sieved data files to fill up the server real soon.
8) Message boards : Number crunching : Congrats! you have found a Prime! (Message 7095)
Posted 4700 days ago by Brian D from GeorgiaProject donor

only the first one to return the result gets an email asking to report the prime. If the initial finder does not respond withing two weeks, the second finder gets the request.

Rytis - I thought that you had stated earlier that on an initial replication of two, it didn't matter who returned the result first but rather whether the wu went out as the -0 or -1 version of the test number file. In other words, if the person that received the -1 version of the file returned it first, they wouldn't get the prime finding distinction as long as the cruncher with the -0 file returned it before deadline. This is a fairer and more random method of getting primes since some people use large caches (dial up acct's) and connect only a couple times a week versus broadband connections that have very low caches since they can upload / download constantly. Please comment.
9) Message boards : Twin Prime Search : credit for TPS workunits increasing? (Message 6836)
Posted 4723 days ago by Brian D from GeorgiaProject donor
I've noticed that the fixed amount of credit given for TPS workunits seems to be increasing. A couple of days ago, it changed from the 1.25 per test that it had been at for a long time, to 1.30--and just today, I've noticed that it changed to 1.32!

I guess that means that finding a prime would therefore reward 2.60 or 2.64 now.... I'm on a slow streak and haven't found a prime since the bump in granted credits....
10) Message boards : Twin Prime Search : Primegrid hogging processors despite its allocated share (Message 6781)
Posted 4729 days ago by Brian D from GeorgiaProject donor
Ive allolcated Primegrid 1% of my CPU power, so that it runs when my primary project isnt handing out work. The problem is that Primegrid is hogging the CPU and about to get detached because it gives such short report deadlines that nothign else will run untilthe last minute, which then makes my other project end up dumping a bunch of WU by being late.

Anyone have a solution to this problem? I realyl dotn want to have to detach from primegrid, but I will if I cant get it to 'play fair'.

What PrimeGrid projects are you running? PrimeGen, TPS, Woo or Cul? Each of these have their own deadlines and varying work unit length. Since you posted under the TPS section, I will assume that you have chosen TPS. TPS work is sometimes sent out as verifications or for unreturned work and the normal 4 day deadline is shortened to 12 hours. Maybe you picked up a batch of these that forced your system into panic mode to crunch PG excluseively.

As Rytis points out, give the projects a few days to run and the BOINC client resource share debt scheduling should solve your problem automatically.
