Copernicus is particularly striking!

Perseid meteors for the next few days. LA is so light-polluted, and moon phase unfavorable, so I doubt I'll see a single one.

I sat out for the last hour. The dimmest star I could see was Deneb. Usually there are bats hawking but none of them. Plenty of aeroplanes. No meteors I could see but there are, I venture, worse things to do than sitting out in your backyard with a mug of good tea while gazing at the heavens

Our 32nd wedding anniversary today.

Congrats! and they say miracles never happen :)

Thanks.

She said "I'm going to cook steak and kidney pudding with jam roly poly and custard to follow. Then I'm going to do that special thing you like." I replied "Well it is awfully thoughtful but I am not sure I'll able to eat a full serving of lasagne and bread and butter pudding."

Not that easy tonight, I'd say. Were it me I'd be in the polar regions. I have an idea that Plato may still be good but I think your best bet will be Clavius and thereabouts.

Anyway enjoy and share your results.

The bit where Sinus Iridum is partly in shade and partly in sun is very pleasing.

I read today in The Times that someone kind, clever and funny but more importantly who told me to become a lawyer so I could bed Erin died recently. A very great man and despite his advice one I will miss him very much.

Crun-chi has it spot-on target. Things like jokes and music do not translate very well. This is why I avoid speaking to people in Canada more than necessary.
HAHA there I just proved my own point!

What was your point?

As for it was one of the best challenges!

And rightly so. Lennart was a major force in the success of PG. I very much hope that someone could pass on how hard fought but civil it was and how much computing power was unleashed. He will not be surprised by the first he would probably be amazed by the second.

And can I say on account of all here at AtP https://youtu.be/I-9dthiJw-Q

Multics was an operating system which heavily influenced the development of various UNIX-like systems. It was a MIT project. I never used it directly but I'm sure that some of the MacOS/Unix/whatever shell commands I still use were derived from it.

Do not ever, *ever*, do the following:

cd ~ rm -rf ./*

Gary

It would in my opinion be difficult to overestimate the influence of Multics on current computing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multics
