Alan Turing's Birthday Challenge
(Message 141179)

Chooka,
Yes, it amazing the amount of $$$ that are spent on some rigs. But, there is also the cost of electricity. I just happen to have a landlord that doesn't care what the cost of electricity is - and pays for mine. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here. AND, there are the hundreds - or thousands of virtual machines used - mostly for the challenges. My son is charge of the cloud for Google, and offered me up to 10,000 virtual machines - I declined - prefering to do REAL hardware. So, with 8 rigs in the bedroom, 5 in the kitchen and living room, I live on a pullout sofa. Funny, but efficient. LOL

Honary challenge in 2019 - what do people think?

How about a 65 HOUR challenge? And, make it a combo CPU AND GPU, and allow bunkering.... Best of all worlds - short time frame that gets a lot of crunching done!

Winter Solstice Challenge 2015

I did find out that it was a disk space problem - the Asteroids project alerted me - PrimeGrid did not. However, problem solved. Were GPUs allowed on the Challenge, or just CPUs? I saw no mention of GPUs (but, since I'm a rooky, I'll say the "cuda' reference means yes.??)

This is a project that I normally run, so I was curious. Seems that I have not been receiving any PPS sieve tasks in the last day or so. Is it on hold till the Challenge begins?

lol... Don.t believe everything you read there. The Boinc log shows it as an available GPU - as does GPU-Z.0.8.5 has OPENCL checked. To enable openCl, with this card, after you install the card drivers, you then run 13-9-legacy_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe to get the openCl operatives required. The problem is the "Project is backed off (resource backoff:562.30,inc 1200.00)" msg I get. (the numbers change.)

Added an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro graphics card to one of my computers. Set it up with openCL, it shows that it is available in the events log file, however, no PrimeGrid tasks will download for it. Trying to get PPs/Sieve to it, as I believe a PPS/Sieve task will run on it in about 18 hours - as opposed to 40 hours as a CPU task. I have 2 other different ATI cards working in 2 other machines. One (an AMD Radeon HD 5800 series) does the task in 1/2 hour, and the other (an AMD Radeon 5450) takes 12 hours. The 5450 used to be in this machine and worked fine so I moved it and put in this 2400 which is not receiving tasks. Any suggestions?

Changing priority on a task
(Message 86927)

ok,, however, I am still baffled that the GPU tasks atiGFN comes in low, while pps sieve comes in at normal priority - and with the gfn task needing only .171 part of a cpu, I'd like it to come in higher so it always gets its share first.
