From silver WW to with 8 GPU in less then 3 hours :)

Please leave some work for the rest of us. :-)

This is insane, 12000 credits per workunit.

For some of us with older GPU's (GTX 10xx), the credit is much more reasonable now.

Gents,

The past few hours we have been privy to a new optimized version of the app for WW and which allows one to process a unit approximately three times as fast. We are now crunching units which are three times as large as the original ones and with three times the credit. My run times have decreased slightly with the new units requiring about 5% less time as well.

Regarding credit on WW:

If the speed of the software changes, the credit for each task does not change.

If the size of the task, meaning the number of candidates checked, is changed, then we will adjust the credit proportionally.

This is consistent with how we usually award credit.

Great clarification!

Will the credit per unit remain the same? (please say yes!)

We'll probably increase the workunit size and the credit proportionally (meaning 3x workunit size -> 3x credit per workunit). Not set in stone, though.

So basically computation time remains constant and credit is multiplied?

That was my interpretation as well but refrained from saying so in the event we are off topic.

The 2 people immediately behind me have stopped progressing in the challenge statistics for about 10 hours now. Gelly powered past me in the last day and then just stopped. I am going to be very unimpressed if bunkering is going on.

tng could be royally p155ed off with me then.

Tim, you are slowly developing a nice collection of badges.

There is an update available for the WW app! It features a ~3x speed increase and an increase in the software limit (2^62 -> 2^64)!

Great news! Eagerly waiting for the production version.

Will the credit per unit remain the same? (please say yes!)

well, it finally cleared up here last night and I got a decent glimpse. by the time my brain kicked in, it was too late -- I do have a decent (Nikon D700) digital camera and a 55-200 lens that would get a little closer. any quick tips for how to snap the best pics in the dark? I'll see if I have a view tonight and if so will do my best to snap a few pictures...

Take a wide gamut of exposures because we have a very high dynamic range for the brightness between Jupiter and Saturn and not to mention the various satellites which are easily within reach.

I suggest you bump your ISO to a manageable level (little background noise) and then bracket a set of exposures from there. Before starting out, use live view with maximum digital zoom and try focusing on Jupiter so as to nail focus as best as possible.
