1) Message boards : Number crunching : Anyone tried the GT430? (Message 29590)
Posted 3521 days ago by Profile Beerdrinker

That's about right for 96 shader pre-Fermi cards. I would guess it would run at about half-speed of stock GTS 450's. That would be at around 2100 secs (or about the same as a stock 9800 GT).

Thanks for the answers!

That´s 80.000+ for a 49W card? That´s not bad is it?

Hello there.

I searched these forums quite a bit. But I can´t seem to find the information I am looking for..

Does anyone have any numbers on how the Nvidia GT430 card crunch compared to both high-end and low-end cards..?

Any information greatly appreciated.

Note that the difference between a 65W processor and a 95W processor is only in the guaranteed maximum power use. How much actual power use difference there is is debatable. The 65W versions are primarily intended for server racks where wattage needs to be matched to e.g. cooling.

In my case, for instance, I bought a 95W Q9400. It's designed to run 2.66GHz at 1.21V. But I've been able to undervolt it to 1.12V at stock speed, which brings its temperature down about 5C. I haven't measured the wattage difference, but it's got to be significant.

You are rigth about the undervolting part. But not all CPU´s respond well to that.

An according to this calculator:

http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

the difference is about 12W. So down to 83 from 95W..Still great - but a long way from 65W

Yeah I know...Only 18W difference..But if I am gonna run this CPU for 1-2 years - the 18W will reduce running costs with about the same as the price difference of the 2 CPU´s

@Beerdrinker

Which Intel Quad are you talking about?

I am particularly interested in the 65W models. The cheapest one here in Denmark is the Q8200s, which is around 300$ US -

On the other hand...I can buy the PhenomII 905, mainstream board and 4 GB DDR3 for around 380-400$ US

Edit: I know that the AMD will cost a little more than the 70$ US first stated - but I will on the brigth side be on DDR3...

Hey there..

Looking to upgrade the main rig to a quad core..But for the price of a good Core 2 Quad - I can almost purchase a solid PhenomII setup with DDR3 memory. (only like 50-70$more overall)

Which upgrade is preferable crunchingwise?

Anyone have numbers on PhenomII performance?

Best regards,

OK.

Found the problem...

It was me who caused it..

I had somehow during initial set-up of the board, configured the board to use a mulitiplier of 6...The E6600 is running at 9..

6*266= 1600 Mhz
9*266= 2400 Mhz

So no wonder the Intel were slow!!! So now on with the crunch and BOINC manager will reduce the time calculated...

On the brigth side....I had a good excuse to buy another stick of memory for the box!

Thks for the help..

Thanks for the replys. I am off for work now - but will mess around some more tomorrow before work.. I will keep you posted..

I also received another stick of memory for the Intel...So I will see if that were the problem.

Sieve WU's is the 321 Prime Search and the Prime Sierpinski Sieves..

AMD X2:

321 Sieve= 95-9700 Secs/granted 190CS
Prime Sierpinski= 17-1800 Ses/ Granted 28.56CS

Intel Core 2 Duo:

321 Sieve=
Prime Sierpinski=34-3600 Secs/ Granted 28.56CS

Will update later..

what says

grep MHz /proc/cpuinfo

on the console on both of your clients?

Maybe ubuntu is setting them to lowest frequency, 800 MHz on your Intel and i think 1000 on your X2.

They are reading correct.

The AMD says 2599Mhz and the Intel 2399Mhz...

I had a suspision on that one....Hmmm I will break out the card and order a stick of memory and give it another test run...

When both these machines are doing Sieve the Intel E6600 is the slow one..! Very unexpected for me...

Anyone have seen similiar?

Edit: Both Boinc 6.4.5 and x64 OS. The Intel is only single channel on the memory tough..All other is stcok..

Intel E6600= 2*2.4Ghz
AMD X2 5050= 2*2.6Ghz
