It would say so in the stderr output of a result, like this one: https://www.primegrid.com/result.php?resultid=1003284396

No AVX 512 for you. You don't have a chip that supports it yet. Most of us don't.

I guess we've found all the February primes we're going to. But it looks like your countdown on the front page skipped a challenge! The next challenge is much sooner than 83 days away.

The machine description says vbox, so there may be one or more virtual machines sucking up CPU cycles.

I think that just means BOINC was installed with vbox support. Some projects prefer to run in a VM. Those projects take an awful lot of resources. Fortunately, PrimeGrid isn't one of those projects.

That is definitely an unusually long time to run a WU! Is there anything else running on your computer? What does task manager show are the top, say, 10 processes?

Edit: Be sure to look at processes from all users.

The mountain is unfair and is giving people special favours. We need to fix it or revolt!

I have heard that re-volting GPUs lower can make them faster. ;) I haven't tried it, though.

Boy, it sure is a quiet mountain this year!

Don't forget the pipeline.

Aha! So this is what we need to win, huh? ;P

I'm on the latest Linux version (7.2.42 x64 GUI) and that option is not there. There does not seem to be an option anywhere to configure cache settings.

Well, I found a prime, so I suppose I should let you in on my secret: I found that if you set priority to 0 in PrimeGrid's preferences, cache size doesn't matter.

The slowest machines will rarely be 1st regardless their configuration, while the fastest ones needlessly sacrifice throughput to always be 1st by a large margin. What prime-seekers really need is a periodically updated histogram for each sub-project, showing % returned 1st versus runtime, for say the last 1000 validated WU (by all participants). The bins chosen for the histogram can be somewhat arbitrary, according to the server resources available. This histogram would allow each participant to assess whether sacrificing throughput (to cut the runtime) is an acceptable tradeoff for a particular machine, or to work on a different subproject.

I think it could be simpler. What we need, for each project, is the recent median return time (as opposed to average run time). If your machine returns results at least that fast, at least 50% of your work will be 1st. If not, less than 50% of it will be.

Median run time could also be useful, though less accurate, if it's easier for you to do

I see that I am up to two double-checks today. Probably more than 75% of my work is 1st returned.... just my lucky day I guess.

Maybe next year a badge can be given for top double-checker?

Hey, now there's an idea! Could we get a badge for Mega Doublechecker in general? I wanna be able to say I earned my MD. ;)

Could I just be awarded a consolation prize for not finding anything right away, so we are done with it and I can go on to crunch something, where my slow and obsolete hardware will not cause me so much stress and aggravation? :-) :-) Perhaps a grey, or invisible jersey could serve the purpose well... :-)

Here, stick this at the bottom of your avatar:

I added a few extra years so you don't have to work on it for quite awhile yet. You're welcome! ;)
