Hi James,

the project main page currently indicates that 1977 tasks should be availlable;
any clues from the BOINC client message output?
You might enable "work_fetch_debug" in the client message options, refresh, and check whether this will give you some hints.

Hi all,

Just to let you know that the BOINC team "L'alliance Francophone" are mounting a PrimeGrid raid during Sept 19th - Oct 5th, when they will be concentrating their cross-project resources on PrimeGrid, specifically on the ESP Sieve (CPU) and PPS Sieve (GPU) sub-projects. Hopefully they will find lots of factors along the way, and drop in at the forums to say hello!

Cheers

- Iain

oh no...

Objection, your Honour!

As the Team ID entry is coming from the prpclient.ini residing on an individual machine your assumption would be correct only in the case that either all participants were using only one machine or in the case that it is ensured for participants with multiple machines that each of their machines has a the same Team ID entry.
To my best knowledge the prpclient.ini of the single machine I was participating in this challange had and has the correct Team ID entry.
Therefore I'm pleading not guilty.

All available (except for PSA) silver or better - finally.

Hi Michael,

thank you for your feedback. I'll follow your hints considering the CUDA driver and BOINC client reinstalls after the currently running tasks have completed and will report on the outcoming.

Of course a Mavericks upgrade might be an option.
As the laptop in question is no designated cruncher I have (many) good reasons to stay with 10.6.8.
Being an Apple customer since the early nineties, experience has taught me to switch to the latest OS version on non-test systems only after some maturity latency.
For Mavericks this shall be at least 10.9.4. for this system.
I have another box where a test system currently is crunching on a 10.9.2 partition, but the productive partitition on this box is on 10.8.5.

Addendum I:

the task abortion with the computation error is observed in a second scenario.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Within the Tasks Tab of the BOINC client, suspend pps_sr2sieve tasks while they are in status "ready for execution" (this is the case when another pps_sr2sieve task is in active state)

2. Wait for the active pps_sr2sieve task to finish and to upload the result.

3. Resume the suspended pps_sr2sieve tasks; the first will fail with the "Output file ... absent" error.

Addendum II:

the task abortion with the computation error is observed under BOINC client versions 7.2.33 as well as under 7.2.42

Referring to your remark on changes on the computer I have no clue what may impact the error; one suspect should be ruled out as the OS has not recieved updates recently (OS X 10.6.8 is more or less out of maintenance sadly).

Same goes for hardware modifications - none recently.

If you have other suspects, just let me know so that I can check.
Just in case you have access to the underlying code - looking from the application (coding) side: what can cause the application to throw the "Output file ... absent" error message - can that be a timing issue?
I have had a look into the respective slots subdirectory where the running pps_sr2sive task is currently assigned to, but there was no such output file.

Thanks in advance and best regards

Joerg

Hi Michael,

I went through the stdoutdae.txt log file;
since Feb. 11th, 2014, the error has occured each time when the CUDA PPS sieve project had been activated and the work fetch was initiated (13 times in total).

The mysterious missing output file error was occuring each time only for the first task processed, and in a single case for the first three tasks.
The second task (or, in one case, the 4th task) and all later tasks ran smoothly afterwards, though.
The CUDA driver version is 5.0.36; which is the latest version available for this HW/OS combination.
Note that the graphics card has no DP capability - but should this have an impact?

Let me know what other information, log files, etc, are required to resolve this issue.

Thanks in advance and best regards

Joerg

Problem short description:
First pps_sr2sieve task(s) failing with message "Output file pps_sr2sieve_xyz for task pps_sr2sieve_xyz absent"

Scenario:
BOINC client version 7.2.42 for x86_64-apple-darwin
OS: Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Darwin 10.8.0)
CUDA: NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GT 330M (driver version 5.0.36, CUDA version 5.0, compute capability 1.2, 256MB, 178MB available, 158 GFLOPS peak)
OpenCL CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 520 @ 2.40GHz

Detailed description:
Upon client update with subsequent work fetch for NDIDIA GPU six new tasks were uploaded.
After a few seconds in most of the cases the first task, in rare cases up to the first three tasks terminated with abortion errors like the following:

"...
24-Apr-2014 15:57:12 [PrimeGrid] Requesting new tasks for NVIDIA
24-Apr-2014 15:57:14 [PrimeGrid] Scheduler request completed: got 6 new tasks
24-Apr-2014 15:57:16 [PrimeGrid] Starting task pps_sr2sieve_73193435_0
24-Apr-2014 15:57:22 [PrimeGrid] Computation for task pps_sr2sieve_73193435_0 finished
24-Apr-2014 15:57:22 [PrimeGrid] Output file pps_sr2sieve_73193435_0_0 for task pps_sr2sieve_73193435_0 absent
24-Apr-2014 15:57:22 [PrimeGrid] Starting task pps_sr2sieve_73193373_1
..."

In most of the cases then the second task, in rare cases the fourth task started and terminated without errors.

10) Message boards : Proth Prime Search : Intel HD GPU app? (Message 75826)

Oops..

I was referring to the Mac equivalent of the application mentioned in message #67384 earlier in this thread.
Maybe just a misunderstanding on my side, but I concluded from message #67298 that there should be an analogous application for the Mac (i.e. "primegrid_tpsieve_1.39_x86_64-apple-darwin__atiPPSsieveMAC")

Furthermore, as I reported in my post #75499 the application has been successfully run a test command via CLI.

Dazed and confused

Joerg
