11) Message boards : Project Staging Area : Servers recommended for my PS3 (Message 22714)
Posted 4609 days ago by LexsProject donor

I don't know if I provided anyone with the RISC source to genefer, but it should build on PS3. It uses its own FFT, so it isn't reliant on a third party library for that. If anyone with a PS3 want to try to build it, please send me an e-mail (not a PM) and we'll work offline to get it working.

I have a genefer-2.2 build for PS3 which also uses the 6 SPU's, but it is not very stable. Further I have a CUDA version, but only tested in CUDAEMU.
If someone has time to look into it more deeply I'll send you the sources.

The user_stats on 7171 are now completely different ?

Is there something mixed up ? Or is that just an alias for another "server" ?

EDIT: Ah seems better now, thx.

http://pgllr.mine.nu/PRPNet/ seems to be empty. Can't find the files. Are the servers down?

server is available here, maybe a blocked ip, we already had something like that some time ago.
can you try from a different ip ? redial your provider to get a different ip maybe?

We are really walking on the edge in the PFDMC. ;-)
Just got another prime submission with an entrance rang of 4999,
that is already the second one which is really close for the top 5000 :-DDD

15-watt nightlights and a DVD player left on all the time will take enough power to run one of my laptop computers around the clock.

In Europe we already have low standby powers at least if your equipment is new.
see http://www.energyefficiencynews.com/i/1715/
and you could use a highly efficient power supply 85+ which in europe with its 220V climbes up to 90+ efficiency. Anyway modern laptops have the best efficiency-ratio.

I have a problem with running prpclient-3.2.3alpha-linux
When I start prp it flashes xterm then gone.

I guess you haven't called the install script before, so maybe the directories which are called by the start script are missing ?

If the problem still exist, you can just copy all the binaries and the prpclient.ini by hand into a seperate directory and start prpclient there, and leave that window alone.
Repeat for each additional cpu core (another seperate directory is required for each instance.)

btw / PS3
seems to run phrot only Is this right?
llrexe=
phrotexe=./phrot
pfgwexe=
geneferexe=

That is correct, the PS3 is a powerpc platform, like MacPPC, and LLR+PFGW is using x86-assembly code (gwnum-lib) which has not been ported to powerpc yet.
Genefer exists for powerpc but is horribly slow, a PS3 version of genefer using the 6 SPU processors also exists but is a little bit unstable, therefore it is not included in the prpclient bundle.

According to this greenpeace study, the power consumption of computer centers is a very big problem.

Two, glee: if I can't have prime crunching fun on my PS3 (I own a Slim), no one can. I'm a bad person.

Maybe you can in future, as soon as the firmware is modded to even boot linux on a slim.
$ony declared the war, now they have to bear with the consequences. Bad marketing as always on $ony's side.
