1) Message boards : Number crunching : Chances of Finding a prime? (Message 11919)

I beg to differ. I am but 1 for about 8200 in PPS. Maybe I can hit another before I hit 10k WUs. At least I have 3 hits in about 14k with TPS.

This is why I prefer sieving. :)

Speaking of the sieve file, I have another quad core system that I will be setting up with 64 bit ubuntu. Can I just copy the sieve file from my current Vista x64 system or do I need to redownload it to the new computer?

While I don't exclusively run PG I use my quad to run PPS Sieve WUs as well. I'm fine doing either the sieve or the LLR during the challenge (but not both on the same machine) but I do wonder whether the admins have a preference. :)

Thanks for pointing this out. I will make sure I am done with any PPS sieve work before doing the PPS LLR challenge. :)

Those who don't think something is wrong with the way BOINC handles time estimates, or at the very least can cause serious problems should take a look at the problems Sztaki was and still seems to be having.

Edit: Just a note that I haven't encountered the problem here but I just wanted to give some warning as to what this sort of thing can lead to.

I was just perusing www.primestats.net and saw that I had crunched 129 PPS sieve WUs. It says I found 4,894 factors or almost 38 per WU which is roughly 1 every 5 minutes. I looked at the top users and found their factors/WU ratios similarly high if not higher.

Is this accurate?
7) Message boards : Number crunching : BOINC Account Managers (Message 11036)

Thanks for the reply. They do agree at the beginning. I set the resource shares in BAM by host and BAM sets up the resource shares in PG correctly. But I can't set the apps on BAM and somehow when BAM contacts PG for me my app selections by host seem to get reset.

For me BAM has never changed any settings in primegrid. (resource share or projects) I've always had to set the resource share in BAM and then set it to the same thing in primegrid settings under my account.
All I can say is make sure when you change something in bam also change it in your account as well.
Sorry I cant help much more than that.

Thanks. I thought if you change resource settings in BAM it makes the changes in the projects (except for WCG). Oh well I have it working now so we'll see what happens next time BOINC calls up BAM on its own. :p

Does anyone use account managers here? I use BAM and it seems to alter my settings here.

I use 2 different setups here on PG. One computer (64 bit) has a high resource share for running sieves. The others (non-64 bit) have lower resource shares and look for primes, currently PPS and TPS.

I do the same thing with some other projects regarding resource shares but not with different apps, as some project's apps are more efficient under a 64bit OS.

So when BOINC decides it's time to contact BAM (or I do so manually), BOINC somehow manages to alter the resource shares and kill my separate app settings on PG. I was trying to setup the PPS sieve but I only was able to get TPS and PPS work on my 64 bit machine which should be exclusively sieve work. I thought I fixed it but the problem hasn't gone away yet (hopefully I will get it working normally tonight).

Is there a way to avoid this or is this an issue that needs to be corrected by BAM?

It's a bit late and I'm sure you all heard this but I may as well post it here for posterity...

I'm really not sure what this could possibly have had to do with n=344,208 anyway.
