Hey, I'm your wingman http://www.primegrid.com/workunit.php?wuid=506171342

Sorry, can't help with not getting enough tasks.

1) Did you pause any Primegrid task on your pc? IIRC, BOINC will not download in this case. Maybe BOINC does discern between GPU and CPU tasks.

2) Check your preferences page: Nvidia GPU allowed, Nvidia GPU selected for PPS Sieve.

3) Check the logfile in BOINC manager, does it give a reason why PPS Sieve tasks were not downloaded?

Regards,

You mean like this?

<app_config>

<app>
<name>genefer15</name>
<fraction_done_exact/>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.2</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>

<app>
<name>genefer16</name>
<fraction_done_exact/>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.2</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>

<app>
<name>genefer17low</name>
<fraction_done_exact/>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.2</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>

<app>
<name>genefer17mega</name>
<fraction_done_exact/>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.2</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>

<app>
<name>genefer18</name>
<fraction_done_exact/>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.2</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>

<app>
<name>genefer19</name>
<fraction_done_exact/>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.2</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>

<app>
<name>llrESP</name>
<max_concurrent>2</max_concurrent>
<fraction_done_exact/>
</app>

</app_config>

Copy to notepad or a similar editor (Windows [7/10]). In your case, you may set cpu_usage to 1.0 and omit the part about llrESP.

Almost forgot: you could add the big ones genefer20, genefer [=genefer21], and genefer_wr [=genefer22] along the same pattern like
<app>
<name>genefer</name>
.... etcetera
</app>.

Then save as app_config.xml to C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\www.primegrid.com
Encoding should be ANSI, not UTF; else BOINC wil read the file, but fail to recognize what it says. At least that one bit me once.

But I don't think it will speed up things very much.

Hi Juckelmauf,

Did you run only PSP Sieve tasks? This project has been suspended, since it would be inefficient, regarding computing resources, to sieve any further.

You can choose a different project in your preferences.

In order to assign a "fair share" to each of your projects, you might limit the number of wu's running concurrently per project.

This can be stipulated in a file app_config.xml in their respective project directories C:\ProgramData\Boinc\projects\www.primegrid.com, and I'm almost sure SETI has its own directory very near.

Contents like this:
<app_config>
<app>
<name>camb_boinc2docker</name>
<max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent>
</app>
</app_config>

Boinc2docker is another subproject [cosmology], substitute a name found here
https://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=5650&nowrap=true#75618 for Primegrid.

With a 4-core PC, <max_concurrent>2</max_concurrent> would give an equal share to both Primegrid and Seti.

App_config file in both program directories; I don't know what name Seti should be given; save the files as ANSI, a while ago UTF-8 was read but not understood by BOINC.

After creating those files, let BOINC know it should abide by them. In BOINC manager: Options - Read config files - Click!

PS: I remember having seen this limitation (max_concurrent) somewhere being applied to projects, not subprojects as is done in app_config.xml. You'd have to consult the BOINC site https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration to find out where and how it's done.

Boss: correct, but throughput did go up a little.
1 task at a time: 11,515.07 seconds GPU, 63.29 seconds CPU
2 tasks at a time: 20,167.21/20,214.44 GPU, 42.12/41.78 CPU

Sample may be too small to draw definitive conclusions.

PS: notable screen lag running two tasks, but just workable.

And 1280 MB it is. Thanks, Scott and Michael.

Will not ask for Ap27 tasks on this (nVidia) machine anymore.
Doubtful if I wil run many tasks on my ATI machine. Seems to be a bit handicapped.

HD7950: Just over three hours/task, GPU use 83%.
No screen lag, but then my screen runs off CPU graphics.
Task = 736667413

Trying to get better throughput, two tasks seem to take six hours, GPU use 99%.
Not much of an improvement. AP27 obviously does not favor ATI/AMD.

Awaiting tasks for my GTX 560ti/448 on another PC.

I'm no CPU geek, but definitely would go for FX6300.

Reasons: it's newer, faster, has two extra cores, faster memory bus.
See http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core2-Quad-Q9550-vs-AMD-FX-6300. Do scroll down to see the differences that went into their evaluation.
