Thanks for your observations will try setting Boinc to 50%, cooling seems to be no problem so far, i am running the 2 Xeon at between 60 to 65 degrees C. the processor is actually 2.93 GHz,( 2 processor with 12 cores per processor)L2 caches are 250KB and L3 Caches are 12 MB per processor. The GPU is a ATi Radeon HD 5870.
Sorry if i have anyone insulted with my loose comment about crappy Mac applications, i take that back so peace can rein again. Any help is highly appreciated.
with my apologies and best regards to all the commenters sincerely Nikolaus

hmmm maybe we have a misunderstanding, at the same machine with the same processor i run one processor with cuda enabled the pps sieve 1.38 in 4,3 hours and the not cuda enabled pps sieve1.38 in 29 hours this is nearly 6.5 times difference for the same credit. i compare a mac pro with 24 cores with a windows server with the same core number and see daily outputs which are times higher in the windows machine. I see the same in other projects. Mac out puts with comparable processor numbers are always lower then windows machines, which makes me suspect that the windows applications are higher optimised then the mac ones. If this is so then its a fact and not an assumption. If it is an assumption i am pleased to be educated.
Now coming to the right to criticise, as i understand your comment is: everybody who has not an education which enables him to make a special thing better then the actual specialist has to shut up and no right to criticise. How the hack would we be able to run a democratic system where everybody is asked to critically participate. All non top specialists would have no vote or right to criticise?
I am sure you could not have meant your comment seriously, friendship and right to critically ask for everybody sincerely yours Nikolaus

the days before starting the Challenge gave me some 130.000 credits in average per day, adding up in 7 days to some 910.000, now from the 3. to the 9th i got some 100.000 and educated guessing from the pending list some 40.000 more totaling 140.000. Where are the 770.000 difference?
Looking at the 17 or bust its even worse, one processor gives me in average some 7000 credits per 24 hours the 17 or bust takes some 12.5 days to process, to be comparable this process should bring me 87500 credits a day but in reality i can count only on 8000. So why crunch those very low paying projects?
AS a mac user you are already punished with crappy applications which render only a 10th or less of a windows machine but the be additionally punished with an unexplainable difference as shown is not very comprehensive.
best regards Nikolaus

Are you still sure about getting the credits 3 days later or do you get the feeling that this challenge got out of control?
Validator is getting into deeper problems, so my initial question is still valid asking if it was a smart thing to do without the assurance that the validator can handle it. In science unfortunately we do as well a lot of bull.. calming down everybody that everything is under control.
best regards Nikolaus

Thanks Nikolaus
