The 2 people immediately behind me have stopped progressing in the challenge statistics for about 10 hours now. Gelly powered past me in the last day and then just stopped. I am going to be very unimpressed if bunkering is going on.

It's a huge amount of equipment. Huge in the context of what someone could have personally.

I looked up fastest GPUs and the RTX6000 isn't on the list for PPS sieve or AP27.
I am guessing that the requirement for the list is 10 x systems with a RTX6000 rather than 10 x RTX6000.

It just occurred to me that it may be possible to trick the stats into thinking there are 10 of something when it could be just 1 by adding the same computer 10 times to get 10 unique IDs. Of course you would then be only using 1 of the identities. For GPUs, you would probably need to do some work in each of the identities and for each of the projects you want stats.

If a 9960X appears in the fastest CPU stats - it would probably be obvious that I managed to 'trick the system'. I think I am not nearly so bored to try that. And it may cause annoyance, though I can't see how it would.

I just looked at Top Hosts - there are some very serious anonymous systems in the top 10.
9 systems each with 10 x RTX6000, 8 of the systems have 96 processors (most likely 48 cores across 2 CPUs) and 1 has 32.
These are undoubtedly used by Syracuse University and they are on a PPS sieve mission.
They want top spot and at this rate they are going to get it in about 5 month's time.

I just discovered that a system had stopped it's internet connection for 3 hours.
Missed out on about 60,000 credit.
This has happened once before relatively recently.
The system now has a 0.4 day buffer.
I like to consider this at chances of being a DC for GFN20s that I wouldn't have otherwise had.

At the very start of the challenge my TV remote failed.
And I mean on the press of the button to take me to the 2nd system to start running.
The remote had failed once before about a year ago.
I took it to the repair shop and it was working again.
I bought a 2nd remote which was sitting ready to go.
I hadn't put it away where I wouldn't be able to find it quickly.
Laziness pays off!

I was kind of hoping to not spend January in an oven.
I was planning to mostly not use my computers then.
I have 3 systems in my lounge room and it will be mid summer (in Australia - it doesn't muck about with heat here)

The schedule would most effect teams like BOINC@Australia.

A CPU project must be always checked.

Why would you advise this?
You can just do GPU work

Even if you're only doing GPU work, you *must* pick a CPU project. It's required. You don't have to run it, but you have to select it.

You can turn off CPU projects by unchecking the "Use CPU" box all the way at the top. But there must always be at least one CPU app selected. If you don't, the server chooses PPS-Sieve for you.

I have been very successfully deselecting all CPU projects while deselecting 'use CPU'. PPS sieve has not been selected for me when I have had no CPU projects selected and when I have 'use CPU' deselected. I do this often when I am changing between projects and/or changing multi-threading.
Maybe PG works differently in the southern hemisphere?

8) Message boards : Number crunching : Effect of single vs dual rank on task duration (Message 145720)

Ryzen is about 10% faster with dual rank which using currently available ram means you need to be using 2x16GB as 8GB ram is all single rank.

On my two 9960X which are quad channel, I have 4 x 8Gb ram.
I should swap those for 4 x 16Gb?
My 9980XE has 4 x 16Gb.
I know my 9900K (dual channel) has 32 Gb - I would need to look to find out if it is 2 or 4 sticks of ram.

It was fun dreaming of the big speakers for a few moments.
I've ordered some book-shelf speakers and got a great deal - possibly because it is Black Friday.

I'm going through a patch of not sleeping - this has happened before but I feel this is going longer than before.
Right now it is 2.40 pm Friday.
Last time I slept was Monday night.
Seroquel, mirtazapine, melatonin, valerian, diazepam & CBD doesn't seem to be enough.

Lets move onto another topic.
The Fly Agaric.
The most recognisable mushroom in the world.
I know it's capabilities wrt exogenous equivalence of gaba.
So I am having my 2nd tea of fly agaric stipe to be helpful to the vodka I have drunk.
I am feeling smooth. Very nicely smooth.
Nice
