Hello, as the title suggests I am considering to start working on SoB tasks. The reason that I'm a bit sceptical about doing it is that my hardware isn't high end at all (i3-7100), and as I have heard, SoB tasks are quite intensive and long.

Anyway, what would you suggest that I do before starting to work on these tasks? I heard something about turning HT off and running 1 tasks on multiple cores. I have already configured BOINC to use 50% of threads (effectively disabling HT) but I don't know how to assign multiple cores to 1 task. TIA!

Have a look at the section re multithreading here http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=8360&nowrap=true#124005
For a good explanation.

Thanks for the quick reply! Any idea where the BOINC data directory on Linux is, though? The host I am going to be running SoB on is running Ubuntu, sooo :P

Edit: Nevermind, found it! For anyone wondering, its:

That is correct for RHEL, Fedora, Centos..., using yum.
For Debian, Ubuntu... using deb, it is in
/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/www.primegrid.com/

my hardware isn't high end at all (i3-7100), and as I have heard, SoB tasks are quite intensive and long.

I think running a unit on both cores you should see something like 4-5 days for one SoB task. This is a very rough estimation.

Actually, I'm getting 2.5 days, surprisingly! Around 1% per hour.
