While looking for a photo I'm sure I took but can't find, I found some really old screenshots from around 10 years ago.
23 November 2005. Even then I was comparing the LLR performance of various systems.
This was way before the days of multi-core, but Pentium 4s had hyper-threading. The Xeon system was dual processor, so 4 threads with HT! There was also a pin mod, where by sticking a wire into the CPU socket you could force the system bus to a higher speed and I had a dual 3.2 GHz system. From memory I started on air cooling and it wasn't quite enough until I later replaced it with a water cooling.
What was I doing then? Rieselsieve was where I got my first big prime as shown in this screenshot. Best Christmas ever! I was away with family on Christmas day when I picked up the e-mail notifying me I had found the prime, and it was the day after before I got home to take the screenshot.
I just found elsewhere this was apparently in a Shuttle running an A64 s754 3000+. |
