PRPNet April challenge - it's a hunt for "eggs" !
See this thread for full details http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=6200
"Egg hunt is a game during which decorated eggs, real hard-boiled ones or artificial, filled with or made of chocolate candies, of various sizes, are hidden in various places for children to find. The game may be both indoors and outdoors. When the hunt is over, prizes may be given out for various achievements, such as the largest number of eggs collected, for the largest or smallest egg, for the most eggs of a specific color, consolation prizes, booby prizes, etc.
Thus winners in our WSS Hunt will be in the following categories:
• Most Near Finds
• Nearest Find
• Highest Score"
This sounds like fun for those who are interested. |
|
|
|
And of course I wasn't paying attention and have a GFN wr running and a sieve file running so I will be late to this egg hunt.
It sounds like a lot of fun however and is definitely a twist on the normal high score keeping.
I will join this one for sure.
Cheers |

I'm all in with 3 gpu's.
ATI 7970, GTX 770 and 470.
I should be able to pump out over 6000 work units per day.
Something weird with my ATI card. I have to run the blocks at 500 and threads at 3 to keep the driver in windows from crashing. Just a heads up. YMMV

I have WRs on the go but they should finish by 22:01:45 on Thu UT+0100.
2 cards this end but had to reduce wwww parameters due to graphics driver bombing out every few hours. Need to do some more benchmarking. Difficult to know where my max stable production is.
Start is 13:00 UK. Hopefully my Easter cake will be done by then. |

No I'm not - it's stil giving fatal error wwww.log completion line error. Device=0 in wwww.ini in -1 folder & device =1 in -2 folder. |

No BOINC, no overclock, constant fan speed.
Easter cake done. |
|
|

Got my 460 running and will add my others as they finish up current jobs.
Dave I have all my cards overclocked fairly high but We also keep our house very cool during the winters and spring. I have to change when it gets hot.

@Dave: the "t" in your "teamid" in prpclient.ini needs to be a capital "T".
If you PM the admins (maybe sysadm@nbg?), they can fix the attribution of the past work.

Two boxes appear to be running ok. My fastest box doesn't like it at all. Constant driver resets. Too lazy to underclock it (factory overclocked) so it'll do other stuff. |

You may be able to stop the crashes by playing with how many threads and block in the wwww.ini file
On my ATI I had to lower the threads to 3 and blocks to 800 because it was constantly crashing. So far it has been running for 4 days with out crashing and I still get one w/u done every 40-45 seconds.

I did a fresh install of 5.3.2, so was re-entering everything frkm scrstch along with trying to diagnose crashing.
Seems it's stable if you minimise everything & don't touch the machine at all. |

I've currently got too poor a graphics card for this (and it wasn't set up properly for WSS last time I checked), so I'll be cheering from the sidelines. Unless it absolutely comes down to the wire, and some CPU power would make a difference!

What sort of run times are you seeing with wwwwcl? Or, is there some configuration issue that prevents it from running at all? As a point of reference, my 570 runs them in about 40 seconds, with threads=4 and blocks=8192. Rock solid... no driver crashes or anything weird like that. Linux.
I don't think running this on a CPU is useful. Use the CPU to feed the GPU, and/or just run other BOINC stuff. Back when wwwwcl first appeared, it was about 20 times faster per unit compared to CPU. GPUs are even more powerful now, and CPUs not so much more, so the ratio will be even greater today.

It'll sink to the bottom. We'll know to aggregate it. Good job I acted fairly quickly.
It must be fixable, if not soon then after the end. |

What sort of run times are you seeing with wwwwcl? Or, is there some configuration issue that prevents it from running at all?
Won't run at all. It sees my HD6650 there but then gives a seemingly irrelevant error message, about a line in wwww.log. Of course, I've tried deleting it (and the other config files in the folder) before starting it, but the sme thing happens. If I leave the previous wwww.log file there, it gives a message about seemingly having pending work, and which stopoption (or stopasoption, or... whichever) I'd like - selecting none of them works.
I know wwwwcl64 is supposed to run on non-DP cards (at least, someone in the thread once told me it did) but I've never got it to work with one. Not certain I've seen anyone else using one either. Anyway, I reaslise that the error messages don't seem to be connected it that.
Again, it's only an HD 6650, a PPS-Sieve WU takes an hour and a half.
I bricked my GTX580 if you were wondering, and am waiting for the right time and right equipment to try to re-flash the BIOS. In theory I know how and it's easy, but... long story.
I ran some CPU WSSs the other day and I know you're right, it's incredibly slow in comparison, but I might join in at one point simply for PSA credit. |

Also - congRATS to Z for finding the first near-WSS of the challenge!

Fatal errors / grfx driver failures even with no BOINC, no overclock & constant fan speeds.
Windiws Updates & a "reboot", or something. Anyone else done one of those before?
Behaving itself last time I checked.
Zune's back in front. |

My GTX 760 is chugging along at 2 units per 75 seconds. I got a late start but oh well.
EDIT: Looks like Roger is worried I might pass him for 13th place... Should I make a run for 13th or better? My GTX 760 is now churning out 2 per 70 seconds. so roughly 35 seconds per workunit. I don't have any CPU on, just this one GPU.

Looking forward to seeing what I can actually produce in a week. No more errors since that reboot. |

Less than a day to go now. I'm rooting for more finds for AtP. Congrats (so far) to zunewantan, Rick, and Brinktastee.
Personally, I got shoved down to 11th place yesterday. Oh well. The hunt for "eggs" goes on. When we're done, I'll switch GPUs back to BOINC, after a delay; 12 UTC is 5 in the morning here :-)

I'm going to carry on until when my pending appears as I want to see what I can achieve in a full week. Felt quite a long challenge.
A core of BOINC back on now regardless. |

I'm going to power off all but one PC. Running to Milwakee on Saturday.

Then to Chicago for a day or two. Then who knows where. Play it by ear.
Got the whole week off. :)

Gonna move my 770 and 660 over to primesearch until the GFN challenge and my 460 to pps sieves. I gotta figure out on my 770 why it will run gfn's for 2 days and then start spitting out errors. I'm afraid to even start a gfn WR because I don't want to run one for 2 days only to have it die. I've even down clocked it as much as I can.
Any hoo I will get it resolved I hope. |

Clean sweep on the near finds! That's a fun treat.
I had to shut off my 570 a couple of times during the heat of the day, due to, well, heat. Otherwise I'd have a couple thousand more done... probably not enough to move up in the overall standings, but close.
Good job everyone.

Good challenge - what a hat-trick of achievements!
Good benchmarking event this end. Back onto short bit of LLR until my next GFN-WR benchmarking from Sunday.
I can at least do a bit of Euro Truck now. |
|
|
|
I kind of tailed-off (no pun intended) at the end of the challenge due to some power issues in my apartment. Namely, an apparent "over-voltage" event.
We had a breaker trip Thursday evening, then the main. When I brought power back up, our lights started pulsing and transformers began humming! I started unplugging things for fear of losing them, and every time I did the power seemed to increase for everything else still plugged in. A couple of lightbulbs blew, and our humidifier made a loud bang and started to smell like ozone.
Electricians came out the next morning and sorted it out, replacing some failed GFCI's in our panel. I think the power supply for my NAS got cooked as well, leaking some dielectric fluid onto the floor, but everything else seems to have some through unscathed, including the computers.
Back up and crunching this morning.
