Off topic and random, but I was curious if anyone else out there in AtP travels by air frequently and finds themselves this time of year trying to get those last minute flights for qualifying miles for status on any airlines? :-)
I know I fell just short of my goal for the year so tomorrow I'm taking an all day flight around the US to get the last of my miles needed. Will be home by dinner. :-D

I don't but some folks who work for me do. They train and fly out a ton. Now, whether they had a goal for the year I don't know.
I do know this, I hate those stupid little puddle jumpers that American Airline (American Eagle) uses. You can have row 17 and be in the very back of the jet. But, they do have a first class section still. Had to travel to west Texas a couple of weeks ago which is why I'm complaining :). Oh and get this, for a whole $5 you can get a mini-can of pringles which would cost around 75 cents if you bought them at the store.

I hate the small planes. I always have to take a regional one to get to a O'Hare, and then fly somewhere from there. They are always a 1 - 2 configuration. Single class cabin. and short, I have to duck to move up and down the aisle...and i'm not terribly tall at all!

I'll be on one of those little American Eagle planes ("Canadair Regional Jet") on Wednesday. I'll have to use my *small* carry-on bag, because my larger carry-on won't fit in the miniature overhead bins. That's going to be a chore for a four-day trip. Plus, like you guys, I'm bound to whack my head on something at least once.
I fly seldom, usually constrained to crazy adventure marathons like the north pole or Chile. Or, maybe once a year in addition to Wash DC for work... at least my company paid for me to get TSA Pre-check status, so that helps. I do not envy my co-workers that have to go through the airport rigamarole on a frequent basis.
Happy landings, Mark.

I'm jealous of the TSA pre-check!
I know I could get it (and global entry) from my company, I just haven't taken the time.
Too much travel here, in the next seven days I fly to Houston, Jacksonville, and then I'm off to India for all of January. (i spent most of November and most of December in India as well for work).

I love TSA pre-check!!! Walk in, show id, walk thru scanner, wait on poor slob with no pre-check. Lol

I agree the TSA Pre is very nice, but it's not a huge deal. You do get to keep your shoes on, and you don't have to take anything out of your carry-on (laptop, liquids, etc.). You don't get to carry anything that standard-check passengers wouldn't, like big bottles of fluids (or guns, ammo, radioactive waste, etc.). In my experience the security line isn't much faster than the regular lines, though sometimes, yeah. At some small airports it isn't implemented yet, so it does no good at all then.
I'm not complaining at all. My company paid the fee (something like $80), so why not? I'm something of a "nervous worrier" traveler, so anything to relieve a little stress at the last second is a godsend.
I hope Mark confined his itinerary to the eastern USA. Out west here, there's quite a bit in the way of unstable weather. And as Brink noted elsewhere, the northern plains are descending into a deep freeze.
