Easy answer...the most expensive one ever made! But of course as soon as you walk out the door they will make a better one, so maybe not. As for tips on what to or to not buy try this thread: http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=5452

Michael is very knowledgeable about what works best here at PrimeGrid.

Assuming you have the disposable income, the best computer for BOINC per dollar would be an i7-4820K w/ three Radeon HD 7990s. The i7-4820K isn't the best CPU per dollar, as it's quite expensive, but you need a 2011 pin motherboard to support three GPUs in x16.

If you can't afford that, go a mid-range (i5?) CPU and a high-end GPU; on nearly every project with GPU computation, GPUs return 10x more per dollar than CPUs.

And after owning both AMD and Nvidia gpu's I might go with Nvidia's in the future. Most projects favor one or the other brand, but if a project can use an AMD gpu then in most cases it can also use an Nvidia gpu, the reverse is not always true. GpuGrid and Asteroids do NOT use AMD gpu's at all which limits your choice of gpu projects. All that being said Nvidia gpu's cost more, so that is a concern too especially when spending over 250 bucks for one! I spent 400 bucks for an AMD card one time, I have never spent over 250 for an Nvidia card, but my Nvidia cards are not as powerful either.

Having owned both as well, I just go with NVidia these days despite the costs. But I do so for a different reason. AMD (or ATI as it was before) offer less support and shorter-term support than NVidia. ATI drops driver support for older OSes relatively quickly and drops various aspects of their drivers for various cards along the way (e.g., CAL is gone from newer drivers, OpenCL support for the HD 4xxx series was dropped some time ago, etc.). I have never had these issues with NVidia cards (Indeed, I still have some older 8xxx and 9xxx series cards crunching on the latest drivers, and I believe that for many cards Win2k is still possible with newer drivers). AMD has some really nice GPU hardware and and more affordable pricing generally, but with inconsistent driver support and a possible lack of long-term support, I go with their competition.

Milkyway and POEM can use AMD but not NVIDIA. Project distribution between the two is even.

This is incorrect. Milkyway does have NVidia applications, though these are all OpenCL rather than CUDA applications.

Didn't Poem stop sending gpu units out awhile back? I just checked and see this:
POEM++ OpenCL version 0 units available, and 0 in progress.

Milkyway and POEM can use AMD but not NVIDIA. Project distribution between the two is even.

This is incorrect. Milkyway does have NVidia applications, though these are all OpenCL rather than CUDA applications.

Huh, BOINC is a bit out of date, then:

Didn't Poem stop sending gpu units out awhile back? I just checked and see this:
POEM++ OpenCL version 0 units available, and 0 in progress.

POEM's GPU unit availability has always been fairly sporadic, I can't say for sure, having not checked for a while, but they're probably just having a bit of a dry spell, I don't imagine that it's cancelled permanently.
