I recently bought an AMD Phenom II X4 960T 3.0 GHz chip to replace my 3 year old Phenom II X3 720. It dropped right into my ASUS M3N78-VM motherboard which I've updated to AM3 via BIOS Ver. 1602. It's a Thuban archtecture so I believe that means it's a Phenom II X6 chip with a couple of disabled cores. I currently run it overclocked at 4.0 GHz and it's very stable. Performs respectably. It's a great backup machine for me. I hope that helps......

Yes if you have lucky you can find that 960T has two disabled cores. I bought two 960T and one was true quad, and second was quad with two disabled cores. When I enable it I got 100% stable six core CPU.
It is very fast chip, have enough L3 cache memory, and it is ok in speed. For backup it is more then ok!
