Me & Huey have been giving it a bit of thought (and beer) and we reckon since we are part of a pretty good team now we might look at resurrecting the old farm -- now as Tim knows I once had the greatest collection of boat anchors known to PG -- I even had an old A bridge P3 447Mhz banging away at Prothies (6hrs to do a PPS in 2010)--
http://www.primegrid.com/hosts_user.php?sort=rpc_time&rev=0&show_all=1&userid=30382
I did manage to get the old Quad back on line today ---
I was intending to jam a couple of GTX590's into the new i7 beast but I have never been much of a credit junkie - I prefer chasing PPS LLR - so we decided we are going to resurrect the old i7 -- this beast was ranked number 4 computer on PG for awhile back in 2009 (x64 Sieving) -- All I have to do is replace the MB, CPU, RAM & Hard drive and its right to go -- (on-off switch works fine) -- So over the next few weeks we are going to try to add a few new hosts to the project

Holy corn rows! Now there's an impressive list. Hope you get them all watered, fed and growing like crazy. Almost like one of those games I keep hearing about on facebook - "Farming with friends" |

Love the collection of boxes. I'd love to see some 590's in SLI. I'm guessing you'd need a 1500W power supply or more. I think the 590's draw about 500W at full load. How long have you had the 990? That is a beast. Always liked the 920 chip for overclocking. Wish I were there to help resurrect them all with you. Would be a fun weekend.

Put it togrther in Aug 2011 -- then went on a month holiday -- still only partly finished (but crunching)-- 990 sits on a Gigabyt Assassin MB -- has 2 PSU's- 1200W & 1000W -- I will edit in the link to the start of the project

Damn! That's one big rig. That huge motherboard looks tiny. You might be able to rent that out as a single room flat...

I got the old Pentium D back online tonight --- If anyone ever comes across this message--------------
Failed to query TCP/IP setting error message
Well just ask me -- took 20 odd hours of head scratching & swearing -- but I got there.

Well this will have you in fits --- got my trusty old anchor going again
http://www.primegrid.com/show_host_detail.php?hostid=224383
It coughed out a PPS after a few minutes -- PG tells me it was 881.14 days overdue and I might not get credit for it -- bloody hide of them!!!!
She looked like an old DC3 starting up -- coughs- splutters ever a bit of smoke out of the A Drive
Looks like a PPS LLR every 7.7 hours -- now we are cooking!!!!

LOL that matches a few of my old laptops I left running at my old place of business... so fast they took about 20 minutes just to power up and another 10 to boot up. |

You won't believe it!!! -- got up this morning eager to see what credit the old girl claimed for 8hrs crunching a PPS --- waiting on a bloody wingman!!!!
EDIT -- I have wronged the old girl -- PPS LLR takes 6.07hrs -- wahooo!!

Credit where credit is due: congrats on the machine resurrection DoES... FYI my free/virtual PC at Amazon EC2 takes about 39,000 seconds to complete a PPS LLR. It's mostly an academic exercise rather than an attempt at increasing credit. But at least I don't have to breathe exhaust fumes or have someone in a helmet and flak vest standing ready with a fire extinguisher :-)

ended up I whacked it with a hammer a few times -- seems all good now

A CPU melt down & recovery-- throttling in action
P4 started to show 44,000 sec Run time --8,000 cpu time
add fans
7,000 run -- 7,000 cpu
speedfan temp monitor shows CPU temp at 429,469,449 Deg C-- no wonder its getting hot in here-- thats somthing above the suns core temperature I think

Speedfan does not report reliably on some older CPUs.

I am here to say no monitor reports reliably on it--
Arrgghh well-- if smoke start pouring out of it I'll take that as its running hot.
Jokes aside -- P4's are pretty hard to kill -- they just throttle back -- I had one throttling for 3 month before it finally gave up--
Curious thing is I have never seen an i7 throttling back and I have seen them up to 115 C at odd times when things have gone wrong-- and still running flat out.

first time I have ever had to attack the contact face of a cpu with steel wool --then wiped it on me shirt and away it went -- tough build them old 920's

Assuming you are talking about the floating and integer speeds listed for the hardware -
TheDawgz believe that it has to do with a known issue in how BOINC under Unix calculates and then reports the floating and integer speeds. It also varies based on the version of BOINC running on the Unix box. Take a look at TheDawgz X4 http://www.primegrid.com/show_host_detail.php?hostid=90322 as an example of really strange numbers. BOINC 6.10.xx was really bad. (and yes, we know it comes as no surprise that everything about TheDawgz would be strange)
Also keep in mind that when BOINC runs your benchmarks - non-BOINC programs that might be running can effect the benchmarks; especially virus scanners in the middle of a scan, game play, etc.
Hope that helps -
as always we are not experts - we are TheDawgz - we are frequently wrong - but we are cute

I know what the problem is and the answer. First you have a high grade gpu on both systems which of course means that you should disconnect and mail me one of them. Once I get the gpu then both of your systems will begin to respond in about the same time.
I will pm you my mailing address so you send me the gpu as quick as possible to fix your cpu issue :) |

Tarmo,
TheDawgz are distressed to hear of your current razorback problem.
If you wish to keep your GPU's -
TheDawgz would advise that you skip the rolled up newspaper - very ineffective against razorbacks; as are most conventional weapons!
Try climbing a sturdy tree - but be sure to pack a lunch - razorbacks can't climb, but are persistent and you may be up there for awhile.
Always remember that once they are on the scent; stopping a razorback is like trying to stop a small rhino.
On a more positive note -
TheHawgz are offering to protect your systems* - at no charge of course - just ship the complete systems to them in care of TheDawgz.
If we can be of any further help in this matter; do not hesitate to contact us.
Warmest regards:
TheDawgz
*The Fine Print: Once your razorback problem has been dealt with one of us most probably, might possibly, and without too long a delay, return your systems (or a like product of our choosing) to you.

Tarmo,
TheDawgz are distressed to hear of your current razorback problem.
I noticed that even though the Dawgz are distressed, they aren't too distressed to give some very clear instructions on how to fix your problem. However, as I see it, their instructions are much harder to follow since it involves packing up the entire system where my suggestion is only 1 small tiny card that won't cost hardly anything to ship. Based on ease of completion, cost of implementation and overall fix my solution is by far the best.
ps - to my friends, who some how climbed a tree, I'm down here waiting :) |

Duh!
Damn, TheDawgz brain is furry today!
Same physical system with different OS and BOINC versions generated different CPUIDs.
So TheDawgz stand by their original assessment.
With regard to TheHawgz offer - they now request that you simply disconnect from PG and reconnect using TheDawgz user name and password (password will be forwarded by PM). No shipping or implementation costs will be incurred this way!

Tarmo, you sneaky little bird :) I still stand by my offer to fix your cpu issue. I am 100% certain that once you've shipped the gpu your cpu problems will be of no consequence.
You know, using someone else's moniker isn't a bad idea. let me give you the right spelling for the dawgz and the right email. I will pm to you in just a few with the right id and email. It's a funny thing but neither the user name nor the email have the term dawgz anywhere. |

Tarmo -- you might try NovaBench (google it) its a simple small & FREE benchmarking tool -- takes less than a minute to run and you can compare other PC's online -- It will show accurately the difference between your 2 PC'c in an independant sort of way.
