Figured I'd start our own little accomplishment thread.
Just got gold TRP and now moving work over to Woodall - try to get that to silver and then PSP to silver. |

I've added some color to my complete* badge set since my last post.
*as complete as I can get with current projects.
I had moved back to Proth/Boinc but realized I was doing doublecheck work (workunits that have wingmen who run the test in 600.00 sec)... so, now back to TRP.

A 'nearly accomplishment' - just missed out on my PSA silver - miscalculated how many WUs to do and left myself on 96,724.00 credits! Need to do a few more, and then wait for next month's credit transfer...

We've probably all done something like that. Even though it's a pain at least you will be able to post again once you get it :)
ps - I think for some reason the ratio has either changed or the ppselow is different cause I thought it was close to 18:1 but based on my last few updates it's been 20:1 with 90% of my prpnet credits coming from the ppselow.
So, I've moved most of the cores running to the 5ob even though it's taking days to finish each wu. |
|
|
|
I've hit a few of my personal milestones this week too I suppose.
Just today I got my PPS (Sieve) over 10 million,
I got a LLR Cullen badge,
and by end of the day I should have a silver on my SGS badge.
I also 'almost' got a prime on SGS yesterday, but sadly i was the double checker.
Overall, a decent week for me. I've switched to 321 now to get more badges. Should go fairly quick once I get my SGS silver and can switch all 16 cores to it. |

Congrats on your accomplishments so far Mark.
I got a question, have you been able to run the cw sieves on your ati cards and if so how fast do they run? I noticed you're kicking out the pps sieves in bunches. |
|
|
|
I have a follow up question, if you have managed to run the cw sieves on your ati can you lease let me know how?
Thanks and congrats
Ian

No, only PPS Sieves for AMD/ATI cards. As long as its a 4xxx card or newer.
CW requires CUDA I believe..so NVIDIA cards only.
As far as bunches, what do you mean? I have instant report so shouldn't be large bunches uploaded ever..
..although they probably will be in groups of two though. Since I have a dual GPU card. I can process two PPS Sieves WUs at a time. Right now those are running me around 32-36 minutes each. (so roughly 4 / hour I complete) |
|
|
|
Oh i see why you are asking about CW Sieve. I see that that is the challenge coming up on June 20th.
Do we have many/any nvidia cards in the group? sigh this is gonna push my decision over the edge i bet on if i want to get a cheap card or not to add to my "prime hunters" computers.
---------
EDIT:
I gave in. I found re certified GTS 450s on newegg on the cheap. I should be ready to process CW Sieve tasks just in time for the challenge! Link if anyone is interested.

i have a gtx 460 - got it on ebay for $150 almost brand new.. i also got a power supply but it died within 2 weeks. so like i said, back to the original 250 watt. apparently the 460 is not drawing as much power as they claim it will and it's still staying pretty cool - 67 to 68 degrees c |

Somewhat off-topic/project, but I finally passed 1,000,000 on Collatz on Thursday. I have an "old" GPU that I mostly donate to that project (except PG challenges). I run only their large WUs now and they take about 13.5 hours each.
I return you now to your normally scheduled PrimeGrid work.
--Gary
p.s. the "old GPU" == 2 years. Sheesh. |
|
|
|
congrats Gary!
I'm curious what your 'old' gpu is.. that amount of time doesn't seem right for Collatz. Before march I was still using a 4870 and on Collatz I still got things done in a decent amount of time. Maybe an hour a WU. |

I'll be throwing a GTX 570 (ubuntu 10.10) into the fray. Plus an older (2 years) GT 120 on an iMac. I may even add some CPU threads, though I'm not convinced the power-cost / benefit ratio for that is worth it. What Would Aggie Do? :-)

GT 120 on an iMac. FYI I had some back-and-forth testing rounds with (now) teammate Iain maybe a year ago on some of the early CUDA apps with this same box. In case some of you don't know it, Iain is the principal developer in bringing CUDA apps to reality to the Mac platform for PG. Muchas gracias, once again.

Congrats on the milestone! And yes whatever you want to do - lol
I will put the gpu and probably most of my cpus on the challenge.. it's just a 24 hr run so it's no big deal. the only pc i leave alone is the one with the 460 and i leave a core free on it to help handle the gpu requests.

I'll be using my GT430. A super basic, just 92 or 96 cuda cores, but only ~$45 and only draws 49 watts of power.
I have 8 cpu cores...
I'll be in the fray... that's for sure.

Sounds like we'll have a pretty good showing then as a team. I can't wait to get my gpu's from the UPS dude tomorrow :-) and test them out and see how well they do on that sieving. I'll probably run it constantly from now through the challenge just so I have an idea of what it will do during the challenge. |

Just thought I would let everyone know I have unintentionally obtained the dubious position/rank of "69" for PSA credit.
Another oddity, I filled up the gas tank yesterday and went inside to get a coffee. Came back out and the pump had stopped (thank goodness), but right on the money, $50.00.
I try constantly to stop the pump on an even 45.00 or 40.00 or 50.00; haven't been able to do it for over a year. Always end up 40.01 or 40.03..
Now, it just happens.??

Bugger. When I fill up it comes out at GBP70.02; USD 113.54.
And 69th leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. |

Congrats to Neo and Gary.
Got home yesterday only to find my gpu pc had been off for a few hours due to a power outage then once I'd rebooted it musta encountered an error and did a reboot and it was another couple of hours before I checked. Gonna have to get me a cheap ups to put on there. Gotta love the power companies... NOT |

Iain,
I am sorry if my post came across the way it did; it wasn't intended, but when I re-read it after the fact, I can see it clear as day that it would come across as arrogant. Again, my apologies.

It seems to vary. During the April 5oB prpnet "project of the month", it seemed to come in every few days. Other times it'll be nothing for a few weeks and then you get a dump that ramps up over a few days and then back down. Either way the ultimate amount of credit granted is the same.
Since the project staff is on "summer hours" now, I'd guess that credit dumps will be on the "fewer but larger" side.

GOLD on TRP Sieve this morning!!! I calculate that I could push it to amethyst in about 2 months if I threw everything at it 24/7. Really, allowing for downtime, challenges, PRPnet work, and so on, it would probably be twice that.
Also, earlier this week, hit 30,000,000 total on PrimeGrid, and 10,000,000 on the CW Sieve project (18th place!).

I *think* I was reasonably lucky with my currently-outstanding WUs in terms of wingman reliability. I have one each of CUL, WOO, PSP, and SOB outstanding from my recent experimenting. I'm 61% on the SOB. The other 3 are done and waiting. I was wingman on the PSP for an obviously bogus result, which I posted about on the main board's PSP thread. Now finished, I'm in "validation inconclusive" state and the WU has been re-sent to what looks like a reliable host. The other wingmen (wingwomen?) look pretty good. Of course I remember a few WUs I've had in the past that took ages to validate.

Went ahead and "cherry-picked" another CU WU (specifically kept the one where I was the 4th wingman to try it, so I will help out some other poor soul).
My machine will probably finish it before my current wingman "times out" on the old one!

Okay, been a great weekend, I got Woodall to silver! (probably WELL past it too once all my wingmen finish up..still have around 50k credit pending)
TRP Sieve will be my next to fall, with 12 cores on it, with 3 - 3.5 hr times, it shouldn't take more than a couple days at most to complete the 95k more in credit i need.
Then Cullen will be next, only 50k left on that, but a few cores are running that already and the extra 12 will do some once TRP sieve is done.
So by the end of the week, hopefully they are ALL silver. The only outstanding one I'll have then is SoB. But I figure if I just dedicate a week or so with my 12 cores on my prime dedicated boxes, I should be able to pull it off. :-D
All in time before the next challenge. THEN I'll be back to smashing out low port primes on PRPNet. can't wait. I miss the rush of primes. (although I'd love a prime from some of these other projects, like SoB. :-) )

Nice set of badges you have there Mark. You have inspired me to improve my own bronzes, at least as well as I can for the still-open projects. As we have a Woodall challenge coming up in only a month or so, I think I'll save that one and maybe go for Cullen first.
But not for the next few days... :-)

Rick, I noticed you are only a solid days effort maybe away from getting your final SGS badge. :-) You can do it!
Hey man, yep I am but I kinda like the bright color LOL so I'm leaving it alone for a bit and working on the pps badge. I might be able to get a pink pps if the old work pc's stay up and running. I've heard they closed the doors for good and no one is there anymore so I'm surprised the stuff is still running.
Congrats on all your silvers and gold !! Lots of hard work there. |

Tim, was watching a show called Bizarre Foods the other evening. They did part of it on the food court in Harrods. What an amazing array of food. |

I had feared you were going to say something about rats. And in fact I have eaten rat but that is a story for another day.
I used to work for a Japanese company and the first time I went to Japan they submitted me to a food ordeal. I enjoyed it and didn't realise that I was supposed to say I couldn't eat some of it. They came up with more and more exotic dishes ending up with konowata http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiokara which tastes as good as it looks and sounds. Several of my hosts were gagging as they tried to eat it.

I pride myself in being very open to new foods. That however looks disgusting. I might have to have a few beer first before I tried and definitely a few more after. I do like most seafood but am not a liver or lamb person. |

I have to agree on the fried part or at the very least cooked in bacon fat. I did watch another bizarre foods show and they had deep fried mullet roe. on the show it musta tasted really really bad since the guy hosting the show almost spit it out. |

Your discovery is different than Mark's insomuch that Mark found a Fermat Divisor, and your discovery was an extended general fermat divisor...

Rick, TheDawgz believe that you have 11 listings here as RReynolds.
We were able to verify that k=6149 n=209997 is listed which is one of your recent PPSE_Low finds. In this case there is no listing for the discoverer of the prime as it was most likely found ages ago.
TheDawgz have 2 factors listed as Murphy and the discoverer of the prime was Michael Herder who found the prime in PG's 321 subproject . For some additional info look at http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=3177. Unfortunately, this is all TheDawgz know.

Team,
This is why I sometimes refer to amazing statistics as a "Rick Reynolds"... or used as a verb, Mark Doom pulled a "Rick Reynolds" when he caused the PPSeLoW port to crash because Lennarts supercomputers couldn't keep up with the pace..........

Rick,
Congrats on your SGS ranking; that is highly awesome!!
I also noticed that you were on the front page with three SGS discoveries.
Impressive. :)

I see we jumped 6 places on the PG team rankings over night-- Number 38 now. Wasn't me -- my RAC has been falling since took the i7 CPU's off sieving.

PSA credit is being issued, including some of the off off off Boinc manual sieving.
PSA work causes very strange increases in ones RAC.
TheDawgz RAC will go from the mid 200k range to 1M+ over the next 10-14 days before beginning to rapidly drop back down.
With a bit of luck TheDawgz should pick up 5M-7M PSA credit over the same period before dropping back to our normal 9-10k PPS_LLR credit/day for 4-8 weeks before repeating the spike.
This is what our RAC looks like over time:

I finally broke through to single digits in the sg ranking. have to take a picture for posterity since it won't last unless the sg project is shut down.
