I recently built my first PC and everything seems to be working fine except the temperature sensors. The GPU sensors seem to be the only accurate readings. How do I correct this so I actually know how hot my CPU is? Temp3 doesn't look too good to me.

I gave Speedfan a try, and saw the same discrepencies as you did. The GPU temps matched what is shown by EVGA Precision and/or GPU-Z, but the CPU core temps did not match what CoreTemp showed.

Core Temp is displaying the same wrong temperature of 23C.

Do your CPU temperatures go down instead of up when you go from 0 load to 100%?

If that's the case, I think what's happening is you have a CPU that reports the difference between the current temperature and the Maximum allowed temperature, rather than the absolute temperature. Some of the newer chips do that. I've got a new laptop with a Core i3 that I think works like that. In any event, CoreTemp (or any other program) doesn't show a valid temperature on that laptop, but the BIOS is controlling the fans correctly.

Just because you're seeing funky numbers doesn't necessarily mean it's not working correctly -- but you might need to let the BIOS do all the fan speed controlling as the third party programs may not read the temperatures correctly.

Mike

EDIT: 23C sounds about right for a chip at full load that reports temperature that way. My C2Q reports temperatures the normal way, and the BIOS varies the fans to keep the temps around 20 degrees below the TJ Max temperature.

Didn't the motherboard come with a utility to monitor temps?
Which m/b is it? It should have useful stuff on the encloses driver/software disc. If not, you could check the support site.

I have a Gigabyte board on my main machine and changed the cpu cooler this weekend from a Nero to a Corsair H50. I got a huge improvement according to
HWMonitor so I am now looking to overclock my i7-920. I found 'Easy Tune6' on Gigabyte's support pages and I'll give it a go this week.

Why not try HWMonitor from the above link and let us know what it says.
Best of luck,
Pete.

I tried HWMonitor and got the same results. I also tried my motherboard's (MSI NF750-G55) overclocking utility and it reports the CPU temp to be 43C; this seems to correspond with SpeedFan's 'Temp1' and HWMonitor's 'TMPIN0'.
