Why does the Primegrid preferences page say "Proth Prime Search (LLR) High priority!!!"? Is there a particularly high need for processing in this subproject?

We are attempting to keep the leading edge of this subproject ahead of the bottom of the Top 5000 list. Currently there's about a two week buffer and growing. :)
More information about this effort can be found here: SOS for PPS

Is there up-to-date status information? Size of the "buffer" (work left to do), primes found, expected prime milestones, primes *I* found, etc. Progress bars and seeing queue sizes go down to zero is motivating :)
Either way, I'll switch on PPS LLR right now!

Yes, I completely agree. Unfortunately, there are no bells and whistles for this. However, all the information can be found in the following:
- PPS Range statistics (will take some time to generate) - provides Min/Max n in progress and Max n complete.
- Newly reported primes can be seen at the bottom of the front page
- Top 5000 List - positions 4750-5000
NOTE: PPS initially goes up to n=5M. Goals for this "extra attention" would be to move the leading edge further up the list. i.e. 4750th, 4500th, 4250th, 4000th, and so on. Currently, the 4000th position is at n=541490. 3000th is at n=599283. 2000th is at n=666666. So you can see, we've got our work cut out for us.

You can also tell how the leading edge is moving by how fast the reported primes drop in the database. For example, 'I' luckily got one entered at rank 4799, now 9 days later it is ranked 4905. 'My' latest entered rank 4761 on 1st July yet within 2 days it has dropped to 4775.
The positive aspect of that is it means 'we' are regularly finding primes! |

All true and accurate, though the speed at which primes drop is significantly related to how fast we're submitting primes (and how many other primes hit at higher n). So, by pushing hard, we do reduce the "time of live" of an individual prime on the list, although we do push other primes off the list as well.
The only reason I'm not hammering PPSE is I'm trying to make sure I get SGS gold before we find one, after missing gold for AP26 by following calls for help :-)
