Lately, I seem to be getting some work units which spend HOURS computing yet always indicate 0.000% progress.

I end up aborting such tasks and have to manually suspend/re-start tasks until one downloads which will show progress indication when it starts.
However, I can only 'baby sit' the BOINC manager if I happen to be at home: Today, I came home from work to discover that 9 hours of CPU time was wasted on one of these (buggy?) work units.

Maybe I should mention that the issue is occuring on my new PC which runs under Windows 7 Professional (with UAC disabled) on a PC with Intel Core2 Quad CPU (2.50GHz) & 64-bit.
I have not seen this occur on my old PC which runs under WinXP (32-bit).

Is this a known issue in general or are there some tasks which will not work under Vista/Windows 7 in particular?

thanks,

OK, here's the one which was running today. Unfortunately I was at work so I could not suspend it to allow another task to (productively) run:

Application:__ PPS LLR 5.11
Name:_______ pps_llr_extended_40894782_0
elapsed:_____ 12:11:25 (counting)
progress:_____ 0.000% (NOT counting)
to completion: 00:57.18 (NOT counting)

I aborted the task shown above and then BOINC downloaded the following four applications:

Qty (2): Prime Sierpinski Problem (Sieve) v1.12
Qty (1): 321 Prime Search Sieve v1.13
Qty (1): AP26 Search 1.04

These all seem to compute OK. However, I was about to report the first three as not working but when I looked at the BOINC manager again they were showing progress as well - they just took a minute to show any progress while the AP26 showed progress immediately.

Well I can at least clear up one thing for ya: LLR WUs don't update progress immediately, but Sieves and AP26 do. However, this is usually 3 or 6 minutes, and I haven't the foggiest as to how a PPSE LLR could be taking 12+ hours. That I'll leave to someone more knowledgeable.
