I am getting the same error message, with resulting "Download Failed."
Am also using Norton - Norton 360 2.0. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the source of the problem.
Any recommendations, or do we have to wait for workloads that don't look like viruses to Norton?

Well, Norton has to be updated NOT to mark the screensaver as a virus. Since that probably isn't going to happen (unless you contact Symantec and let them know), an easier solution would be excluding BOINC data dir from realtime scanner.

Once I had false positive by McAfee from yoyo d.net wrapper.
The bad thing was that a window pop-up appeared on several office computers...not good.
Excluding BOINC folder form scan works but is not best practice.
Sometimes I liked app_info and opt application - you can prevent downloading any unauthorized applications this way.

Here is the link you can use to contact Symantec and inform them about the issue. Your words, as paying customers, should help :)

Rytis -- I very much agree -- I was once a fully paid up customer of Norton until it let a few very nasty viruses into my PC---
I now have the personal view that it should be declared a noxious pest and eradicated wherever found---

Norton sucks.
It always did.. and I think it always will.
I use NOD32 from Eset.
No problems so far. Since 7 years now.
Boinc is running smooth too :-)

I contacted symantec with relation to this matter. and this is what they have said:
We are writing in relation to your submission through Symantec's on-line False Positive Dispute Submission form for the Primgrid software being detected by Symantec Software. In light of further investigation and analysis Symantec is happy to remove this detection from within its products.
The updated detection will be distributed in the next set of virus definitions, available daily, or weekly via LiveUpdate, depending on Symantec product version, or daily from our website at
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/defs.download.html.
Hope this helps |

If Norton makes trouble don't use it.
Use Avast. I use it for years and had never a problem.
And it's free for all. |

You must be one of those "wise guys" who thinks that you are smarter than Norton. Well go ahead and ignore their warnings and lets's see how long your computer keeps runing. Not many Virus protection makers are able to detect this sneaky virus and it's not easy to delete or detect. It's usually sneks in your system after downloading "Free" software. So if you're trying to be a cheap skate and get things free, you might as well start shooting yourself one toe at a time. |

Gotta love trolls.
And yes, I am smarter than Norton because I learned years ago not to use their horrible software and as harsh as it seems, I laugh heartily at people who still pay for that crap. =)

Plus one. I don't use Norton but that's some sharp and decisive work from all those involved in informing them and getting it fixed, I assumed an issue like that would be more of a nightmare to resolve. PG wins again. |
